When there is no harbour

This is being a man
Knowing you are alone
Not fearing it
Standing, not leaning.

Everything you love
Is sand, and blows away
Do not be afraid
The world has no end.

This is being a man
Losing your roots
Not fearing it
You are not your mother's son
You are not your brother's brother
You are not your lover's lover
You are the wind
And cannot be divided
Cannot be broken
Cannot be lost.

Fear no storm
You are the wind
And cannot die.

This is wisdom
For when there is no harbour:
You are the wind
And cannot die.

Thought you might find this a truth. “Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things – air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky – all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.” – Cesare Pavese who is someone I have never heard of but apparently a major C20th Italian writer - not enough travelling on my part!
